Goodbye Dan
Dan McLaughlin died this morning leaving behind a wife
and two kids. Some kind of heart related problem is thought to
have caused the sudden death of a good friend of ours.
We called each other "Flash" for a long time because we
both move fast, especially when we are working. Dan worked
with my dad and was always speed walking around the office,
back and forth from the showroom he designed and maintained.
Monday we talked real briefly...just "hey flash, hey flash". Wish
I talked to him a little longer.
Interestingly we had a long talk in Better Days about three
weeks ago. He was hanging out, having a few beers which was
very rare. He was a family man and spent his time at home.
But he was happy to be having a little party and we covered all
the hot topics from war to women. What stuck with me was
the conversation about women. I was musing about being single
and wondering if I'd be a lifelong bachelor. He laughed and told
me that he didn't marry until around forty and told me how
glad he was that he waited. He loved his wife and children very
much.
These passings are always tragic but they highlight
something we all take for granted. Life is short, today was his
day, tomorrow could be yours. Be Ready.
