"There is no difference between the worry of a human mother and an animal mother for their
offspring. A mother's love does not derive from the intellect but from the emotions, in animals
just as in humans." --Rabbi Moses ben Maimon (Maimonides)

A good quote that one of the bloggers posted on the Daily Reporter site should make us all
think about how we treat animals.  One of my revolving new years resolutions is to stop eating
meat, which I have 98% accomplished(sometimes I sneak a bit of Better Days delicious all
natural beef).  Until this year I have somehow justified eating seafood which gives me a goal
for the year.  Not only are fish, crab, and other ocean creatures intelligent, social beings but
the are filled with continaments like heavy metals like mercury.  So after gorging myself on
innocent lobsters and suffering mentally and physically for days..... no more seafood for me!!
Vegetarian living isn't for everyone but making an effort to eat one 'meatless' meal a week
can make a difference.  If your looking for easy veggie meals Giant has increased there
inventory and I am always willing to give out some of my staple recipes!!!
After a few days of mulling over the proposed new live entertainment
policy I am happy to announce that we will be making a few changes.

The first is going to be a reduction in the number of live music events
per month- we've been hosting 4-6 bands each month and that will be
reduced to 2-3 events.  This is being done to reduce overhead and in
response to a certain level of over stimulation if you will.  Rarely do
bands pay for themselves and that can often require a situation where
profit takes a back seat to fun.  I personally prefer fun to profit but in
the interest of keeping the doors open we have to be more
conservative.  Yuk.  The other reason is that there are plenty of folks
who plain get sick of a loud live band every weekend.  This seems
illogical to me and you but its reality....we need to give peoples ear
drums time to re cooperate.

The next big change will be part of making live music more than just a
band, but an event.  And not just any event, but the kind of feel good
event where we help the planet a better place.  For each band we will
partner with a charitable organization to raise money.  Think of it as an
offering to the gods as we kick back and have a good time.  We are
fortunate in many ways and Better Days will always try to give back for
all thats been given.  Hopefully you'll agree with this new approach and
will understand the new cover charge of $5 includes a $2.50 donation
to charity.  We will publish the financial results of each event the
following week and with between 24 and 30 events we ask for you to
suggest a charity or family that can use our help.
