It was a very successful balloon rally this year!! The weather was
great, only one launch got canceled due to a huge thunderstorm.
Coincidentally me and THEDICKBUCKMOBILE got caught with the
top down and got soaked. It was worth the trouble.... there is
something to be said for driving underneath lightening bolts in a
convertible. Anyway.... the street festival on Main Street was
packed, great job by the Chamber of Commerce. It was certainly
the busiest Saturday lunch in our history.
The crowd was rather well behaved and not until 1am Sunday
morning did a known jerk decide to test our disdain for violence.
Within a two or three minute period the jerk told the bouncer "I ain't
leaving..I'm looking for a fight", I called the PD, they arrived before I
could hang up the phone, and the jerk was gone. That kind of
response is not only impressive on the busiest weekend of the year,
but it honestly stops violence. This jerk would have started a fight
and people would have been injured had the police not arrived that
quickly. Thank you again WPD!!
Keeping a business solvent in Wellsville is no easy task and it would
be much more difficult without events like the Balloon Rally. Not
only does it provide a sharp increase in sales for all of Main Street,
but it brings people back to town after attending a great event. It
takes alot of work, by the same people year after year, and they
seem to be doing a better job year after year. Muchas Gracias to
the Balloon Rally Committee and Chamber of Commerce!!!
