The spaceship sent word like a lightening bolt from a storm cloud and it was a pretty clear message. Coincidentally the folks at Farm Sanctuary got the message a while back and are working hard at obeying orders. Its a pretty simple message and its the right thing to do. Nothing is more gluttonous, selfish, and senseless then eating a baby animal because its 'tender'. Veal is a young cow that is separated from its mother at birth, crammed into a crate, and fed a fattening mix of food and hormones until its early death. They don't want the calf to move around as to ensure the meat is tender and they deprive them of iron in order to produce a pale colored flesh. Generally they collapse from there lack of strength and abnormal body weight. All to provide 'gourmets' a meal of unmatched tenderness and texture regardless of the cost, despite the miserable and short life of the animal. I have eaten my share of veal and once I learned of the consequences I immediately stopped. The idea of a young innocent animal living a life of suffering and forced obesity so I can gorge myself on its meat is pretty easy to walk away from. Hopefully you will agree and help make Wellsville a "Veal Free Community" by telling any retailer or restaurant to please stop supporting the veal industry. Its an easy thing to do and a really hard thing to refuse to do. Many folks don't understand what veal is and what calves endure to provide it so I hope this helps you explain the basics. If you need more info or a place to direct questions and interest visit NoVeal.org or send them my way. A big happy smile for the Wellsville Creative Arts Center/The Little Gem Restaurant for joining Better Days in a pledge to not serve veal. We hope other local eateries will soon follow suit and Wellsville will become the first community on the planet to publicly refuse to support the veal industry.
