Here is a story about a couple of puppies that have crossed my path recently and nearly gotten me arrested for bulgury.
The story starts as I am walking out of Hamilton's Shoes and meet my friend Snuffer who is walking one dog on a leash
and carrying another in a blanket.  Without much inspection I ask why both dogs weren't on a leash and she replied
"Oh this one's sick he'll probably die tonight" as the tobacco juice dripped down her chin.

Being a dog lover I took note and realized she wasn't joking: the dog was very sick, hardly able to stand on its own four
paws.
"Well what is wrong with him and has a vet looked at him?" I asked Snuffer resisting the urge to snatch the puppy from
her.
"He's full of worms and has parvo" Snuffer matter a factly stated.  "But the vet saw him today and gave him something".
(Parvo is a potentially lethal virus that all puppies are supposed to be vaccinated for)
Feeling bad about the situation I told Snuffer to get ahold of me if the dog didn't get any better soon.  She agreed and
thanked me again for saving her life(another story).
Later that night I was in Better Days when Snuffer showed up again, this time with the sick puppy wrapped in blanket in a
kids toy wagon.
"He ain't no better....he's dying" she told me.
Thinking of what to do I decided to send her on back home for the night but told her to meet me in the morning and I
would take the puppy to the Wellsville Vet Hospital.  She agreed and went home with my instructions not to bring the
puppy back out in the cold and to try and feed him something.
 Phone rings about 11pm.
"Ace the dog is really dying you better come get him" Snuffers old man Don said.
Within five minutes I got to this lovely household and was escorted upstairs into some kind of scene from Poltergeist.
On the floor lay Snuffer, nearly on top of the puppy, crying and wailing for the ailing pooch.  I took a quick look around to
make sure there wasn't any gross animal mistreatment or neglect occurring.  There wasn't.  So I grabbed the sick dog
and took him out to the car.  Then I went back inside to check on the other dog and give everyone a good ass chewing
about having dogs that they can't handle.  It fell on deaf ears so I just took off for the vets office.  Doctor Lopez was nice
enough to come out and treat the dog and keep him until he is healthy.
Leaving the other dog behind was hard and the next morning we decided to go convince the Snuffer Family to check
the other dog into the hospital before it too got really sick.  When I got to the house everything was locked up tight but I
found the pup on a side porch that was not locked.  With no one around I had to think twice about just taking the puppy
but decided to get him to the doc's and explain to Snuffer later.  So we took puppy #2 to the vets, fed him, and put him in
with his sick brother(he was already almost surely infected already from previous interaction.)
We went and talked to Snuffer who after a little bit of convincing agreed that the dog needed medical help.  Her
boyfriend wasn't happy to hear that the puppies may not be returning because 'he just paid thirty bucks for a rabies
shot'.  I left with the incorrect impression that everything was cool and I would let them know about the dogs health soon.
Before long an old friend of my called and informed me that he just spoke with Snuffer and Don and they were
considering having me arrested for breaking and entering to take the puppy.   So off I took looking for these people to
mend fences and avoid having to return the animal and get in any trouble.  Finally I caught up with them back at the
Snuffer's house and we agreed to not have me arrested and to let the dog stay at the vets until it was well.  It took some
convincing but they finally acknowledged that the situation wasn't so great for dogs and that I was only trying to help
them.  They really wanted the dogs back home and agreed to let me help them create a more suitable environment for
them before they do return, if they do return.  So I planned to help them haul a load of trash away, fence in the
backyard, and convert a side porch into a dog shelter.  Until I made a return visit to see if they had started to get things
cleaned up......... part two tomorrow!!!!
