Today kicks off a month long fund raiser at the pub that is really important. The cause is Victim Services and the
Rape Crisis Center on Main Street Wellsville. This small underfunded office counsels, advocates, and supports
victims of violence in our community. So basically if your sister gets assaulted by one of the many predators lurking
around Wellsville the staff at Victim Services will do whatever they can to help.
Here are some of the specific services that are offered.
• 24-hour crisis intervention through operation of the hotline
• 24-hour advocacy/accompaniment to hospital, courts, police, etc.
• Counseling services including goal planning.
• Support Group services.
• Court accompaniment/preparation.
• Crime Victims Assistance through the NYS Crime Victims Board.
• Information and referral.
• Victim Impact Assistance.
• Case/Offender Status Updates.
They do it all: bring the victim into a safe place to begin recovery, they will go with them for treatment and to begin
helping them seek justice. While continuing to support the victim and the family they will personally accompany
victims to court and do whatever they can to make sure the offender is held to account. They help get people
through the personal devastation of violence. Try putting yourself in the position of someone who was raped or
beaten to near death. How important would it be to have someone to turn to that was ready and able to help.
So I'm sure you can agree that this office is a vital service that our community needs to be as effective as
possible. Our community is littered with sexual predators, many who aren't labeled as such, and they live on your
street. Personally I'd like to form vigilante squads and go to the houses of the monsters we know about and do
whatever it takes to make sure they don't get another chance. I was kinda thinking about public crucifixions
myself......that would send a message!!! Sadly we can't take the law into our own hands so we've gotta find other
ways to make the statement.
There are lots of ways to make these kinds of crimes a rarity instead of something that we hear about way to often.
The easiest way to help is to give financially. When you come into Better Days this month you'll have the
opportunity to give directly to Wellsville Victim Services. Kinda like when you go through the checkout at the
supermarket and give a dollar or five dollars to a charity. Now we aren't just asking our customers to donate.....we
are giving some of our profits and tip money as well. Every time a bartender or server makes more than fifty bucks
they will donate 10% of there tips. For every dollar in tips donated we will match that dollar amount from our
profits. I think that if we all just give a little we can raise alot of money for Victim Services. They really need the
cash for the holiday season as it is an even more difficult time of year for victims and thier families.
OK....sorry for the long blog but I want to make sure you all understand what we are doing and why. I'm sure you
will all support this drive in earnest and I thank you in advance for the help in supporting this important cause.
