This past weekend wrapped up another
successful Ridgewalk and Run, an event that
Better Days supports and spends alot of time
helping with.  This year we sponsored a
pre-event speaker, Terri Schneider, who spoke
at the new Wellsville Creative Arts Center.  I
was the only male in attendance and while it
was a "female empowerment" speech I did take
away one very important message from Terri.
It was that no matter what you do, what you are
working toward, the real value isn't in
completing the task or achieving the goal...."it's
in the toil".  Meaning that all you experienced
and all you learned while working toward
something is the important part. It's a good
perspective to keep in mind when you are
struggling to achieve anything.

Better Days spearheaded the chow line for the
actual Ridgewalk, feeding around 1000 hungry
walkers and runners.  Al, Ashley, Kristine,
Paula, The Captain, Mom, Dad, Aunt Ann, and
Uncle Dan all took the day to help put this feed
together and make the event another success.
We saw lots of familiar faces passing by eating
Texas Hots and soup.  We also met some new
people who had come from all over the country
to enjoy a majestic fall day on the Shear farm.
It's a great deal for the whole community and
we are glad to have helped make it happen.

Congrats Rich and Gwen for creating this
event that showcases the best of our little
piece of paradise.

An update on Ace's World Headquarters on the hill.  We got
the wood stove installed and working with relative ease.  Now
the problem is chopping up wood to burn which is a real
learning experience.  The other problem is that the ceiling isn't
insulated yet so the house holds absolutely no heat, making the
wood stove kinda pointless.  I did set up a little makeshift living
room where I can sit next to the stove and read by candlelight,
cook my food on the stove top, and wrestle with complete
silence.  I have pictures of all this but since Verizon still can't
figure out how to get the pictures off my fancy cellphone you'll
have to wait.  Last night was interesting and kinda spooky.  First
I have a mouse that literally sits on my pillow while I sleep and
the jumps off when I wake up, leaving little chocolates for me(at
least they taste like chocolate).  Should I trap him or just let him
be??? I like chocolate but sharing a bed with a mouse is little
over the top(although the other morning I woke up and there
was a little bird sitting on my bed looking at me, swear to god).
The spooky part was when I got up at around midnight to get a
drink, went outside for second and a bobcat was about fifty feet
away.  Bobcats have a howling scream that I can't describe
other than it is very loud, kinda like a siren going off.  Well this
cat let out a scream that sent the dogs running back inside and
me wondering if it was a bobcat or the grim reaper coming to
call.....I went inside and locked the door.
